All well-designed security systems guard against perimeter doors being opened by unauthorized persons. Some people also choose to protect ground floor windows or upper floor windows where access can be gained from the outside. Each Door/Window Contact consists of two parts - a "switch", housed in 3/8-inch cylindrical housing (to be mounted in a 3/8-inch hole in the frame of the door or window) and a small magnet, in an identical housing, to be mounted in a similar hole in the moving surface opposite the switch. Opening the door or window moves the magnet away from the switch, and a signal is transmitted to the Alarm Control, which analyses the event, to determine whether an alarm condition has occured.
